Waste Removal FAQs
These waste removal FAQs cover the practical details of booking a collection with Waste Removal North West London: what we collect, how we quote, access, loading and paperwork. If you’ve got a flat to hand back, a garage full of old furniture or renovation waste blocking the garden, here’s what to know before booking.
We serve North West London and the wider NW area. For rubbish collection questions about your own job, call 020 4538 1013 or email info@waste-removal-north-west-london.co.uk.
Booking and Access Info
1. Can you collect my rubbish today or tomorrow?
Yes, same-day and next-day collections are often possible, depending on our bookings and your location. If you’re asking how soon rubbish can be collected, send photos, your postcode and any deadline together so we can check availability.
Tell us if a tenancy ends tomorrow, builders need the driveway clear or an estate agent is collecting keys. We’ll confirm the collection window when you book. If access depends on a caretaker, loading bay or timed parking restriction, mention that before we arrange a slot.
2. Can I get an accurate quote from photos?
Yes, we can usually give a free, no-obligation quote from a few clear photos. Take a wide shot of the whole pile, then closer pictures of anything hidden behind furniture or stacked in a corner.
For an accurate quote, include:
- Your postcode and a brief item list.
- The floor level and whether there’s a working lift.
- Parking arrangements and the distance to the entrance.
- Heavy items, electrical appliances or materials needing special disposal.
- Anything that needs taking apart to get through a doorway.
You can request a quote with those details. We agree the price before work starts.
3. Do prices include labour, lifting and loading?
Yes, our quote includes a two-person crew with a van doing the lifting and loading for the agreed collection. You don’t need to carry a wardrobe downstairs or move bags to the kerb.
The price is based mainly on how much van space the waste takes, plus any items needing special disposal. Access details help us plan the work properly, so mention narrow stairs, long carries or dismantling. Our guide to waste removal pricing explains what affects the quote. If you add items, we’ll agree any price change before loading them.
4. Do you need parking or clear access to the property?
Yes, we need a safe route between the waste and the van, with somewhere suitable to load. A space near the entrance helps, but tell us about yellow lines, residents’ bays, height barriers or a rear entrance reached through an alley.
For flats, let us know about lift size, booking requirements and entry codes. A sofa may fit in a passenger lift only when stood upright, while a heavy appliance may need the stairs. Photos of tight turns and doorways help us spot problems before arrival.
5. Can you clear upstairs rooms, lofts, gardens and sheds?
Yes, our two-person crew collects from anywhere in the property, including lofts, upstairs rooms, gardens, sheds and garages. Nothing needs bringing outside first.
Tell us about loft hatches, ladders, low roof space, steep steps or rotten shed flooring. We need safe access and somewhere secure to stand while moving items. If a loft is packed to the hatch, a photo from below helps us assess the starting point. Flag loose glass, exposed nails or damaged steps so we can plan the loading safely.
6. Can you clear the property while I’m away?
Yes, we can arrange key collection or access through an agent or neighbour. This is useful for landlords, executors and customers who live too far away to attend.
Before the visit, we’ll need clear instructions about what goes and what stays, along with an access contact. Label retained furniture and keep paperwork, keys and personal belongings separate. We can take before-and-after photos on request and send completion photos once the clearance is finished, so you can see the cleared rooms without making another journey.
What We Collect and What We Can’t Take
7. Can you remove mixed household and renovation rubbish?
Yes, we can collect mixed loads, but we need to know what’s in them before quoting. A pile of cardboard, broken chairs and bedding is different from bags of tiles, rubble and plasterboard.
Include the materials as well as the number of bags. A black sack filled with packaging takes similar space to one filled with broken tiles, but the weight is very different. Keep sharp pieces contained and tell us about loose screws, nails or broken glass. Don’t hide heavy rubble beneath lighter household rubbish.
8. Do you take fridges and freezers?
Fridges and freezers need specific confirmation before booking because they require specialist disposal. Tell us the appliance type, approximate size and where it is, and we’ll confirm whether we can collect it and any disposal charge.
Mention an American-style fridge-freezer, an integrated unit or an appliance on an upper floor. Before collection, empty and defrost it, contain any water and make sure it’s safely disconnected. Don’t cut cooling pipes or try to remove the compressor. Photograph narrow doorways if getting it out could be awkward.
9. Can I put hazardous or unidentified materials in the load?
No, don’t add hazardous or unidentified materials without discussing them with us first. What we can’t take needs checking against the actual material; a sealed tub without a label isn’t enough to identify its contents.
Flag suspected asbestos, chemicals, paint, solvents, gas cylinders, fuel, sharps and anything leaking. Keep substances in their original labelled containers where possible, and don’t mix liquids together. If old roofing sheets or insulation might contain asbestos, leave them undisturbed and tell us. We’ll explain what needs a separate arrangement before you book.
10. Are there weight or volume limitations?
Yes, every van has a legal weight limit as well as a fixed amount of loading space. Dense waste can reach the weight limit before the van looks full.
Soil, concrete, bricks, tiles and wet plaster are common examples. Tell us the approximate number of rubble bags and what each contains; photos alone can make a heavy load look deceptively small. Large items also need checking for safe handling and a workable exit route. We’ll confirm the collection arrangements once we’ve assessed the load.
Preparing for Collection and Clearance Day
11. Do I need to bag everything or move it outside?
No, you don’t need to move the waste outside, and furniture doesn’t need bagging. Our crew handles the lifting from its location.
To prepare items for removal, separate what we’re taking from what you’re keeping and clear a walking route where possible. Check drawers, coat pockets and boxes for documents, jewellery and keys. Bag loose lightweight rubbish if practical, but don’t fill sacks so heavily that they split. Keep rubble separate from ordinary rubbish, and point out fragile surfaces or anything sharp when we arrive.
12. Will you check the job before loading and tidy up afterwards?
Yes, we’ll check the items and access with you, confirm the agreed price and then start loading. Point out anything that must stay, particularly if we’re clearing a room containing both waste and retained belongings.
Our two-person crew does the lifting and loading, then sweeps up before leaving. A clearance removes the agreed items; it doesn’t replace a deep clean of carpets, cupboards or appliances. If you’re handing back a rental property, leave time afterwards for any cleaning or repairs required by your tenancy.
13. Do you recycle the waste and provide waste transfer notes?
Yes, we sort what we collect for reuse and recycling where we can, and take the rest to licensed sites. We don’t promise that every item can be recycled: condition, contamination and material type affect the options.
We’re registered with the Environment Agency as a waste carrier and we’re fully insured. You receive a receipt or waste transfer note for every collection. Keep that paperwork as a record of the handover. Our waste carrier and insurance information explains the checks you can make before booking.
Payment and Receipts, Cancellations and Changes
14. Can I confirm payment arrangements before booking?
Yes, we’ll confirm payment arrangements before you commit. Ask which payment methods are available and when payment is due, particularly if an agent, landlord or family member is paying for the collection.
The collection price is agreed before we start, and you receive a receipt or waste transfer note for the job. If paperwork needs a particular billing name or property address, tell us beforehand. For questions about payment and receipts, contact our team so the details are clear before collection day.
15. Can I cancel or reschedule my collection?
Yes, you can contact us to request cancellation or rescheduling. Give us as much notice as possible, especially if you’ve arranged a key handover, caretaker access or a reserved loading space.
Ask us to confirm the cancellation and rescheduling policy, including any applicable charges, when booking. A replacement date depends on availability. If your waste pile or access arrangements change, send updated photos and details before the visit so we can check the quote and allocate suitable van space.
