Our Waste Removal Process: From First Photos to Final Sweep
Our waste removal process gets unwanted items out of your property without you carrying them to the kerb. At Waste Removal North West London, we arrange the collection, agree the price before starting, and send a two-person crew with a van to do the lifting and loading.
We collect across North West London and the wider NW area, from a broken washing machine in an upstairs flat to the contents of a house before completion. We’re fully insured and registered with the Environment Agency, and you receive a receipt or waste transfer note for every collection.
Here’s how our rubbish removal service works, in four steps.
Step 1: Send Photos and Tell Us What Needs Collecting
Booking rubbish collection usually starts with a few photos. Call 020 4538 1013 or email info@waste-removal-north-west-london.co.uk, tell us where the waste is, and explain when you need it gone.
A few bags beside a wardrobe are straightforward to assess. A garage with boxes stacked behind furniture needs a little more detail, because the front row rarely tells the whole story.
What Photos We Need for Quotes
Send enough pictures to show the full amount, rather than a close-up of each bag. The most useful photos include:
- A view of each room, pile or area to be cleared.
- Larger items in full, including sofas, wardrobes and appliances.
- Anything tucked behind furniture or stacked out of sight.
- Stairs, narrow doorways or awkward turns along the removal route.
- The entrance and any restrictions on where the van can stop.
Don’t climb into an unsafe loft or move a heavy cupboard just to get a picture. Tell us what you can’t show and we’ll discuss how best to assess it.
Mention Heavy Materials and Special Disposal Items
Let us know about concrete, soil, tiles, plasterboard and rubble. Several small bags of broken tiles can weigh far more than a much larger pile of packaging, which affects safe loading.
Also flag fridges, freezers, electrical items, paint, chemicals, gas cylinders or anything you suspect contains asbestos. Some items need separate disposal arrangements, and some may need a specialist service. We’ll establish what we can collect before booking.
Quotes are free and carry no obligation. Our waste removal pricing guide explains what affects the cost, including van space and items needing special disposal.
Step 2: Agree the Collection Details and Arrival Window
We’ll agree what we’re collecting, discuss access and arrange a collection slot. Same-day and next-day collections are often possible, so tell us early if you’re working towards a tenancy handover, delivery or property sale.
The price is based mainly on how much van space the waste takes, plus any items that need special disposal. Clear photos and an accurate list help us quote properly.
If you’ve added more waste since sending the pictures, let us know. We’ll confirm any change to the price before loading starts.
What Happens After Booking?
We’ll settle the practical details so the crew knows what to expect:
- The collection address: include the postcode, flat number and floor.
- Access: tell us about lifts, stairs, gates, entry codes and long walks from the property.
- Parking: mention permit bays, loading restrictions or limited stopping space.
- Timing: tell us if access depends on a caretaker, agent or booked lift.
- The items staying: identify anything near the waste that must remain.
A van parked well away from the entrance means a longer carrying route. A lift too small for a sofa means using the stairs. These details matter more than customers often expect.
Time Windows and Arrival Slots
We’ll agree an arrival window when arranging your collection. If you need to meet us at an empty property, tell us before the slot is confirmed so we can plan around your availability.
If you have a firm deadline, give us the actual time. “The keys go back at midday” is more useful than “sometime tomorrow”.
You don’t have to be there throughout. We can arrange key collection or access through an agent or neighbour and send photos when the clearance is complete.
Step 3: We Check the Job, Then Lift and Load
On collection day, our two-person crew checks the items and removal route with you, or against the agreed instructions if you’re away. We confirm the price before starting.
Our collection and loading steps depend on the property. A ground-floor garage with clear access is different from a loft clearance reached through a hatch or a flat with a tight stairwell.
What to Expect on Collection Day
We do all the lifting and loading from anywhere in the property, including lofts, upstairs rooms, gardens, sheds and garages. Nothing needs carrying outside for us.
We identify what is going, check how larger pieces will come out and work through the clearance with care around door frames, walls and floors. If something differs from the photos, we’ll discuss it before proceeding.
For a partial clearance, it’s particularly helpful to point out what stays. A box of family photographs beside bags of unwanted paperwork can be easy to misidentify without clear instructions.
How We Handle Heavy Items
Tell us about unusually heavy or bulky pieces before the visit. Examples include solid wood wardrobes, stone tables, upright pianos, cast-iron baths and large commercial appliances.
Weight is only part of the problem. A sofa may have fitted through the doorway before a porch was added, or a wardrobe may have been assembled inside the bedroom.
We’ll assess the route and handling requirements before moving it. If dismantling or specialist equipment may be needed, we need to establish that in advance. We won’t force an item through a gap or attempt an unsafe lift.
How to Get Ready Without Moving the Waste
You don’t need to bag everything or bring items downstairs. A few small preparations help us get on with the job:
- Remove cash, jewellery, documents, keys and keepsakes from items being cleared.
- Empty appliances and furniture drawers where you can safely do so.
- Keep children and pets away from the carrying route.
- Set aside anything you want to keep, or label it clearly.
- Make entry keys and gate access available.
Don’t overfill bags with rubble or hide sharp objects among soft rubbish. Tell us about broken glass, exposed nails or leaking containers so we can plan safe handling.
Step 4: We Sort the Waste, Sweep Up and Provide Paperwork
We sort what we collect for reuse and recycling where we can, and take the rest to licensed sites. We also sweep up the cleared area before leaving.
Our sorting and disposal decisions depend on the materials and their condition. A usable table, a damaged fridge and bags of mixed renovation waste each need a different route.
How Recycling Is Separated
Our recycling workflow starts with knowing what’s in the load. We identify materials such as metal, wood, cardboard and electrical equipment so they can be directed to suitable facilities where possible.
Keep items identifiable if you can. Loose batteries, paint tins and electrical equipment shouldn’t be buried in bags of general rubbish. Clean cardboard is also easier to recover than cardboard soaked with food or paint.
Not everything can be reused or recycled. Contamination, damage and mixed materials can limit the options, so we don’t promise that every item will avoid disposal.
How We Issue Waste Transfer Notes
You receive a receipt or waste transfer note for every collection. This records the handover of the waste and gives you paperwork to keep after the job.
If you’re arranging a clearance for a landlord, business, executor or managing agent, tell us whose details the paperwork needs to show. Our waste carrier registration and insurance information explains the checks you can make before booking.
A Tidy Finish and Photos on Request
Once loading is complete, we sweep up and check the agreed items have been removed. Sweeping doesn’t replace a deep clean, but it clears loose debris left by the collection.
We can take before-and-after photos on request. They’re particularly useful when you’re away from the property or need to show an agent that a room, garage or garden has been cleared.
Get Your Collection Started
Send your postcode, a few clear photos and your preferred collection day. Include any stairs, parking restrictions, heavy items or special disposal materials, and we’ll work out the next steps with you.
Use our free quote enquiry page or call 020 4538 1013. We’ll agree the price before starting, collect from wherever the items are and leave you with the paperwork when the job is done.
